Yep... All of this cuteness can be a little overwhelming. Got questions? Purrfect! We've got answers:

IS THIS REAL LIFE?

Yes, yes it is!

CAN I BRING MY OWN CAT?

No, we are not BYOC. We’ve got plenty of cats for you to play with!

ARE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED?

Not required, but we definitely recommend making a reservation because our capacity is very limited. We want to ensure that everyone gets to spend time with our kitties without annoying lines or waitlists. We will take walk-ins if we have enough space. If you're walking by our space, come on in! But if you're planning your visit ahead of time, making a reservation is a good idea :)

I AM NOT LOOKING TO ADOPT, CAN I STILL VISIT?

One of our favorite things about the Cat Cafe Experience concept is that your visit supports our mission, regardless of your ability to adopt. We don’t profit off of the adoptions, we send adoption fees back to our rescue partner. Our main goal is to get cats out of shelters and into an environment where they can free roam and get socialized. This is why we LOVE it when people visit, even if they can’t take a cat home. We get a lot of exposure this way, which promotes our cat adoptions naturally. It also helps socialize our cats!

WHAT IS YOUR ADOPTION PROCESS?

First, we'll see which kitty you fall in love with :) Then, we'll have a quick chat with you to ensure you meet our rescue partner's requirements. We are the fosters/caretakers of these cats, but the adoption approval process goes through our rescue partner. This is why we'll have you fill out an adoption application. Within a day or a few, you'll participate in a phone interview with their adoption coordinator. If it's a good match, you'll be approved, pay the $125 adoption fee (that goes back to our rescue partner) and schedule a day and time for the cat's pick up! The process can take anywhere from a day to about a week, depending on how available you are for the phone call and how busy the adoption coordinator is. Do note weekends and Holidays are busiest for adoptions!

DO YOU MAKE YOUR OWN FOOD?

No, we do not. Animals and commercial kitchens shouldn’t mix. For this reason, we have partnered with Brasil Arts Cafe so you can enjoy 15% off yummy treats that are safe to bring into our cafe. You can get these items at their cafe before your reservation with us. This way you can enjoy all of your favorite things combined in one happy place: CATS, cats, cats and MORE CATS. Oh and coffee, tea, smoothies and snacks at a discounted price =) We do have a little complimentary coffee and tea station at our store, featuring Santa Barbara Roasting Co. Coffee.

WHY DO YOU CHARGE A RESERVATION FEE?

Because cat cafes aren't generally allowed to make their own food (in the US) and we do not profit from the adoptions, charging a reservation fee is the only way we can bring this pawesome business to you and continue to help shelter cats. Your reservation fee is spent on all of the regular business expenses plus all the other costs that come with caring for 13-22 rescued cats.

HOW DOES THIS BUSINESS HELP CATS?

Most people don't know this, but cats are the most euthanized pet in California. We believe that this can change, as many cities have become no kill (like Santa Barbara, for example). We work with a rescue organization based out of LA to assist them in saving as many cat lives as possible, by providing these rescued cats with a space to live in until they're adopted. Our main purpose is to free cats from cages forever and help decrease euthanasia rates while increasing adoption rates.

Our cats live in a home-like environment, where they can enjoy running around, playing, cuddling on their favorite bed, and getting tons of cuddles and attention. This not only increases their quality of life, but also by providing people with a different platform to connect with shelter cats, we raise their chances of getting adopted.

DO YOU WORK WITH ASAP OR ANY OF THE LOCAL SHELTERS?

We love our local rescue organizations. But the amount of adoptions we generate a month didn't make it possible for us to just work with a local shelter. We tried for a while, but we were running out of cats on a regular basis (What a great problem to have!). Even though there are many cats in need in SB, the local shelters are doing a great job and we aren't a city that euthanizes cats due to lack of space. This is why we decided to use our resources to save cats facing euthanasia at high kill shelters. Los Angeles has one of the highest rates of euthanasia for neonatal kittens and cats in the country. We couldn't bare to think so many cats were being put down in a city so close to us, when we could help! We are changing that reality with our rescue partner Stray Cat Alliance. We do assist local rescues like ResQcats in any way we can.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE CATS AT NIGHT?

All of our cats are BFF’s, so we let them have crazy cat parties at night. We do take the necessary measures to ensure they can’t hurt themselves when we aren’t around. But besides that, cats are very independent and are ok being alone for a few hours and we don’t cage them.

CAN I PICK UP A CAT?

Our main priority here at Cat Therapy is that you and the cats have the best time ever. That is why we have to compromise sometimes and avoid certain things that can make cats feel uncomfortable: like for example being picked up or waken up every time they’re trying to take a nap. That is why we have certain house rules. But please, don’t be discouraged!! Some of our cats LOVE being on laps and our staff will ensure you get all the kitty love you want :)

HOW MANY CATS DO YOU FOSTER AT A TIME?

The number of cats we foster fluctuates between 12 and 22, depending on age, size and purrsonality. Every time cats get adopted and go home, we go to the shelters and get more cats to bring to Cat Therapy! This happens weekly. Our priority is the cats safety, health and comfort.

CAN I CHANGE OR CANCEL MY RESERVATION?

We will happily reschedule your reservation with 24 hours in advance, but we are unable to offer refunds at this time. You can also make changes to your reservation by clicking on the "Modify Reservation" button on your confirmation email. All sales are final, meaning cancellations and "no shows" are non-refundable.

WHO STARTED THIS MAGICAL BUSINESS?

Well, thanks for asking about me! My name is Catalina (people call me Cat, of course). I am a musician and photographer, and now top cat of Cat Therapy! Being around animals has always been my most favorite thing in the world. I came up with the idea of a cat café in Santa Barbara after volunteering at ResQcats and realizing that I wanted to help in getting more cats adopted. I pitched the idea to my husband and partner in crime (whom for some reason did not think I had lost my mind), and together we created this business as a relaxing and therapeutic space where humans and cats alike can feel at home.
